The Kanger Subtank has long been one of the best sub-ohm tanks on the market, which we’ve previously listed in our best clearomizers list. However, with the Kanger Subox, they’ve really outdone themselves, matching the Subtank with the Kbox mini – a user friendly, brilliantly designed box mod.

The Kanger Subox fires up to 50W and can be used to power coils with resistances as low as 0.3ohms and as high as 1.5ohms, making it a hit with sub-ohm and mouth-to-lung vapers alike.

At £54.99, it is competitively priced and has already proved to be one of the most popular and acclaimed ecigarette starter kits, with hundreds of thousands of units already shifted in the UK alone.

However, is all the hype deserved? We find out in our Kanger Subox Review:

Clearomizer – Kanger Subtank Mini

With its 4.5ml capacity, bottom vertical coils and steel/pyrex glass build, the Kanger Subtank already ticks a lot of boxes as far as quality is concerned. The coils are made with organic Japanese cotton, which provides better absorbtion and flavour, and the huge liquid holes in the coils’ housing means that the wick gets consistently saturated with e-juice and dry hits are practically non-existent, even with high VG eliquids.

It has a highly adjustable airflow, ranging from big, wide holes which produce huge plumes of vapour to pin prick sized holes for those who prefer less vapour production.

The build quality is great; the tank feels strong and sturdy and taking it apart to change the coils or refill it with eliquid is quick, easy and convenient.

Leaking has always been a bit of a problem with the older Kanger Subtank, but the new and improved version seems to have nipped this problem in the bud – we’ve been vaping it for about a month now and have not experienced any leaking which is out of the ordinary, or to be expected of a tank at this price range.

Box Mod – Kbox Mini

With any ecigarette, the performance of a great tank can be ruined with a bad box mod, so does the new Kbox mini stand up to the Subtank’s great performance?

The answer is a resounding yes. The box looks fantastic; sleek, slim and incredibly well designed. The 18650 battery (sold separately) is conveniently housed in a magnetic casing, which makes it easily accessible and securely held.

With variable wattage up to 50W, it is powerful and more than capable of firing resistances down to 0.3ohms. Its OLED display is easy to read and the setting are very easy to adjust, so you can tweak it to your own personal preference.

It also has pass-through charging, with the micro USB port placed so that you can leave your ecigarette stood upright as you charge it (no more dry wicks).

Vapour Production and Flavour

Vaping the Kanger Subox at 1.5ohms
We tried out the mouth-to-lung capabilities with some Cuttwood Bird Brains at 18W. We were immediately blown away by not only the vapour production, but the intensity of the flavour. We had previously been vaping through the Innokin VTR with an iClear 30s[link] tank and the Subox blew it out of the water.

Vaping the Kanger Subox at 0.5ohms
The Subox performs extremely well as a mouth-to-lung vape, but sub-ohm is what is was really built for and when it really comes into its own!

We vaped at 35W using Villain Vapors’ Capone eliquid. It produced huge, thick clouds of vapour alongside incredible flavour. For a device priced as a mid-range sub-ohm starter kit, the performance is truly outstanding.

Pros

  • Extremely good value at £54.99
  • Great build quality and design
  • Looks and feels great
  • Great performance from the Kbox mini mod
  • Great vapour and flavour production from the Kanger Subtank
  • Some of the best coils on the market

Cons

  • Subtank can still be a bit leaky, but the newer version has improved this problem
  • Uses DC instead of true RMS to measure wattage. This means that at lower wattages, the Kbox’s output is actually higher than stated. This could be a problem for vapers using the Kbox with clearomizers which cannot handle the higher output

Kanger Subox Review Verdict

The Subox is undoubtably one of the most popular box mods on the market today, and with its exceptional performance and value for money, this is not surprising! We really can’t recommend it enough for anyone from brand new vapers to those looking for a consistently well performing sub-ohm box mod.

Sure, it might not rival the performance of the top end box mods, but for under £55, you won’t find a better ecigarette anywhere on the market.
